Nairobi Estate Bans Jogging on its Public Roads

Jogging has been prohibited within public roads in the Muthaiga North area of Nairobi.
The area is popular with joggers living along Thika road as it offers a serene and cool environment perfect for running.

Affected joggers who spoke to Datahom.com on condition of anonymity stated for about three weeks now, guards from different estates in the area have been cautioning them from jogging.

“Every time we come here to jog, guards usually demand that we turn back because jogging has been prohibited,” noted the jogger.

Guards from the estate noted that the management arrived at the decision due to increasing theft cases which has been placed solely on joggers.

Ironically, the guards pointed out that taking a walk within the estate’s public roads was allowed but jogging had been prohibited.

It is worth noting that public roads within the area are often used by commuters heading to Kiambu road and Thika daily.

The jogging route is mainly used by individuals who live along Thika road escaping the congested pedestrian route along the busy superhighway. The pedestrian stretch on Thika road has been invaded by boda boda operators and hawkers making it difficult to jog.

In the wake of Coronavirus pandemic, most people staying at home have resorted to morning and evening jogs to keep fit and pass time.

Efforts to contact the management were futile as our call and messages went unanswered.
